♥ ♥ THE STORY OF A DOUBLE HEART PIN

THE STORY OF A DOUBLE HEART PIN
♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I wanted to share this adorable pin.
This pin is about the size of two red
M&M candies side by side. It is a tiny
pin, and you would need to be close
to the person who was wearing it to
read the message.
"♥SPEAK DEAR THIS IS LEAP YEAR♥"
Leap Year is February 29th and only comes once
every four years. Ladies last year 2008 was a
Leap Year, (oh well), but on February 29th
"ONLY", a bold lady could propose marriage
to a man. This mini pin was possibly worn
by a man on his lapel at a Valentines Day
Dance, where he could catch a ladies interest,
and let her know he was available for marriage.
She could only on February 29th of a Leap
Year propose marriage to her choice of a mate.
Having viewed similar pieces to this pin, my
opinion is that it dates to about 1890 to 1910.
Here is a antique postcard Circa 1907 showing
the eager maidens looking for a husband in the
Leap Year of 1908. The postcard reads:
{Maidens are eagerly waiting
Their traps enticingly bating
for the year Nineteen naught eight
By the old laws of leap year
They can propose without fear
and pick their own choice for a mate.}

RETRO LOVE PIN
Goldtone Metal "LOVE" Pin - Circa 1970
In the late 1960's this buzz word was everywhere.
The Beatles sang it, the flower children of Haight-
Ashbury yelled it and idealistic young people
believed that love was all you needed to save
the earth.
