BAKELITE DAYTIME NECKLACE

I think of the 1920's & 1930's, as a time
of flappers with long strand bead necklaces
and gangsters who wore pinstriped suits.
The movies give us this idea, but the real
truth is that the ladies of the 1920's and
1930's wore 'day clothes'. A simple drop
waist dress in a dark color with a hat.
This necklace is what the average lady of
the day wore. And she probably purchased
the necklace at a local Five and Dime store.
The Bakelite necklace shown above is made
of brown Bakelite machine cut wedges spaced
with orange tube beads. This necklace would
be appropriate worn with day clothes.

These old fancy shoe buckles are made
of silver tone metal. I found the pattern
to be especially interesting.
These shoe buckles would look terrific
added to shoes for a truly authentic
looking witchy Halloween costume!

ELIZABETH MORREY NECKLACE SET
The interesting color combination found in this
Elizabeth Morrey beaded necklace set immediately
caught my eye. Three types of beads make this a
over-the-top beaded necklace set.
1) Large orange beads w/gold tone filigree cap trim.
2) Black smaller beads with line trim.
3) Pale yellow Venetian glass beads decorated with
glass millefiori and gold flecked enamel.
Elizabeth Morrey sold jewelry in 1950's and 1960's.
All pieces are tagged with the Elizabeth Morrey name.

BAKELITE PLASTIC DRESS CLIPS

Bakelite Dress Clips - Circa 1930.

Beautifully carved orange and green.

My first amazing jewelry find were
these dress clips made of Bakelite Plastic.
Bakelite is plastic jewelry made from
man made cast phenolic resins.
Bakelite was first used in jewelry
production starting in about 1925.
The plastic was generally cast as rods,
tubes, and slabs. Then the plastic was

sliced in to smaller pieces to be detailed.
These plastic jewelry pieces were
then carved or etched, using
techniques similar to glass cutting.
In 1936, Bakelite was so popular as

jewelry, that approximately two-thirds

of all jewelry being made that year, was

made of the Bakelite cast resin.

Stylish Carmen Miranda, a Hollywood

Actress who wore 'loads' of jewelry,

including Bakelite jewelry in her movies,

and made costume jewelry an item to wear

for every style conscious girl of that era.

BLACK BAKELITE SHOE CLIPS

These Black Bakelite Clips are carved and have
cut steel trim. They are very unusual and may
be an early 1920's dress/shoe clip. Circa 1925.

VINTAGE FLAIR
The silver tone decorated bar pin has
teardrop shaped drops in black and crystal.
This style of bar pin is Victorian but this pin
is a recent copy of that eras bar pins.
The silver tone drop earrings are again a
design of years past brought into the modern
era. These earrings have a bit of Celtic style.
Many jewelry styles revive and cycle with
fashion trends, but in a lot of cases revival
jewelry is often made from old metal casting
forms. So we have designs from the past,
but made with today's technology and machines.

WIDE LINK METAL BRACELETS

I positively love these wide bracelets.
The design on each link is so artsy.
The width of some of the links are
approx. 3 inches, these link bracelets
almost looked like a cuff when the
bracelet was on the wrist.
These can be found in both goldtone
and silvertone metal.

COROCRAFT - "Golden Leaf Brooch"

GOLDEN LEAF BROOCH
A lovely pierced gold tone metal leaf
brooch. Corocraft was the higher end
jewelry line of the Coro Company.
In most cases the jewelry in the
Corocraft line were classic, well made
pieces of jewelry expected to last for
many years. Thus the prices were also
higher than the inexpensive jewelry
items made in the same time period
that were meant to be worn as novelty

PENNINO - "Golden Rhinestone Leaf"

This is a beauty, with terrific details.
A leaf brooch with mini rhinestones
splattered over the top. The rhinestones
that are used here are actually 'set into'
the gold tone leaf mounting.
The Pennino Brothers Jewelry Company
is known for their fine jewelry workmanship
and classic jewelry styles.
Circa 1950.

DOUBLE BI-COLORED LEAF BROOCH

This multicolored gold tone double leaf
brooch is stunningly pretty due to the
simple lines and the demure use of
rhinestones. The design surprise is
the use of both, rose and yellow
gold tone metals on the leaves.
This brooch is well made, but
unfortunately there is no
manufacturer or hallmark
present on this brooch.
Possibly circa 1955.

Single Blossom Stretch Bracelet
A silver toned metal stretch ribbed bracelet
is enhanced by one lovely silver toned frosted
metal blossom. The center of the blossom has
a lovely plastic pearl to add to the beauty of
this bracelet. From Circa 1955.

UNUSUAL PLASTIC & SHELL PIN

Homemade or Jewelry Kit?
This is an unusual pin and probably
one of its kind. Why? This pin was
made from jewelry findings and
possibly came from a jewelry kit.
The large edged diamond shaped
green plastic slab, with rhinestone
accents is so sweet, but what
enamoured me was the "S" made
from sea shells and the colored
sea shells on each end with tiny
rhinestone trims. Circa 1940's

It's true, you can say it, this is not
what you expected when you saw
1960's brooch. We all think of the
bright colored mod flower power
pins when we think of the 1960's.
While the young people were into
bold and wild, the older generation
were having martinis, dinner parties
and dressing up to go out on the town.
This gold tone glam brooch would
spice up even the simplest of evening
attire. The turquoise glass center and
white rhinestone trim add spark to
make this glam brooch mega stunning.

This is one beautifully made bracelet!
It is a well made gold tone flexible metal
bracelet. Each side of the bracelet has
lovely aurora Borealis rhinestones with
alternating faux plastic off-white pearls.
The center has brushed gold tone metal
to give the bracelet a rich patina. This
bracelet could stand on its own, with
fashionable evening wear.

LEAF ROW NECKLACE
A gold tone metal repeating leaf
and white rhinestone choker necklace.
This is a simple but pretty design by
Coro, and is a very well made piece of
jewelry. It is in near perfect condition,
and with no sharp edges. The necklace
has little more weight so the choker would
stay firmly in place on the neckline.

A bright coral colored stamped ceramic
brooch inspired by Moorish and Moroccan
Tile Art. During the 1960's the influence of
art from other lands was popular not only
in decorative arts, but also clothing and
jewelry. This is an excellent example of
those influences in the jewelry genre.

Sarah Coventry Inc. was a sister company of Emmons

Jewelers, Inc. Both companies were founded in 1949

by Charles H. Stuart in Newark, New York. Both the

Sarah Coventry and Emmons Jewelry Company sold

their jewelry through home jewelry parties.

of the Sarah Coventry jewelry line from 1961.
